Information On Dental Hygienist Requirements

A dental hygienist is one in which you would place your faith in to help care and treat your oral health. Thus, you would not want to leave your dental care to just anybody. A dental hygienist should have received the education required and the license to practice before seeing any patients. But what type of education are they supposed to go for, and what license do you need?

When it comes to education, one who aspires to be a dental hygienist will need to complete an accredited dental hygiene program. The school will need to be accredited by the Commission of Dental Accreditation to be recognized as compliant to standard dental practices. Prior to the program, one should have graduated with a high school diploma, and have college entrance test taken. In high school, they would need to have taken courses like Biology, Chemistry, English, and computer classes. For some dental hygiene schools, there would be a prerequisite of completing one year of college. Nevertheless, one should read through the prerequisites of different dental hygiene schools as they may vary from one another. Different programs may offer different certifications, such as associate degrees, certificate, bachelor’s degree, or Master’s degree. At least an associate degree or certificate would be required to work in a private dental clinic. With a bachelor’s or Master’s degree, one can work in the areas of research, education, or clinical practice within the field.
